PORSCHE 908/03 Toblerone

This factory car, the Porsche 908/03 chassis 13 did only one official race as an official factory car: the 1000 KM  Nürburgring 1971. The duo Pedro Rodriguez and Jo Siffert finished 2nd. Very quickly, the Porsche then in Gulf colours was sold to the Spaniard Juan Fernandez, via the Porsche Spain importer Ben Heiderich.
After a good number of races in Spain in colours mixing the sky blue Gulf livery and a few additional sponsors, it got a yellow and green Tergal livery for the 1972 season. The season was busy between the World Championship and Spain, it competed among others in the 24 Hours of Le Mans 1972. The drivers Juan Fernandez / Francesco Torredemer / Eugenio Baturone did not see the finish and retired after going off, following a technical problem. They ran 8th overall.

For 1973, the 908/03 Porsche takes on extra Swiss paint. It gets Toblerone colours on the occasion of the 1000 kilometres of Monza 1973, its first outing. It is entered by the Porsche Club Romand. Claude Haldi (CH) and Juan Fernandez (E) do not finish the race, due to engine problems.
Then the car entered the Targa Florio 1973 with Claude Haldi and Bernard Chenevieve driving. Unfortunately, the 908/03 will not see the start, following engine problems encountered during testing. Revenge in the 1000 km Nürburgring : a fourth place overall.

Next race: the 24 Hours of Le Mans 1973. Owner of the car, Juan Fernandez is still the leader of this 908/03. He entered the car by the Escuderia Montjuich. He is joined by his compatriot Francisco Torredemer and by the Swiss Bernard Chenevière who brings the biggest part of the budget, Toblerone. Again the Spanish sponsor Tergal on the car, provided by Fernandez.
If the qualification is not fantastic with a 21st place on the starting grid, the final result is more convincing. With a reliable and incident-free race, the trio finishes in an excellent 5th place.
